Ben Waters, trader, has been an equity delta one trader in Global Indices/MSCI since 2019, trading in Emerging Markets and Developed Markets (with a primary focus on Emerging Markets).
Career History
From June to August 2017, Mr Waters worked at Citi, London, as a summer analyst, dealing in markets and securities services on the organisation’s Trading Execution Desk. Prior to this, he was the University of Auckland Investment Club Inc’s investment analyst from June 2014 to June 2015, following the committee’s intensive and thorough selection process that necessitated both fundamental analysis and valuation using the DCF model. Mr Waters was so successful in this role that he was the recipient of the Outstanding Performance by a UAIC Committee Member 2014–2015 award.
From 2012 to the present, Benjamin Waters, trader, has managed a real-money portfolio of his own, investing in a range of stocks and options. His equities strategies involve fundamental analysis and DCF and multiples valuation, while his options strategies incorporate outright calls, debit spreads, credit spreads and horizontal spreads, and he invests primarily on the NASDAQ and New York Stock Exchange. The profits derived from his trading activities funded Mr Waters’ university tuition and living expenses during his studies.
Education and Skills
Mr Waters is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), achieving a BSc in accounting and finance in 2018. While at university he was a member of several societies, including the Trading Society, the Investment Society, the Alternative Investments Society, and the Business and Finance Society. Prior to studying at the LSE, Mr Waters attended Westlake Boys High School, where he was awarded the Top A-Level Scholar accolade in November 2013.
Mr Waters cites his key skills as being highly astute in managing and taking risks in cash products and D1 derivatives and having the ability to successfully lead a team. He has a sharp eye for alpha opportunities and an appetite for taking on reasonable risk to achieve potentially outsized returns.
In his free time, Mr Waters loves to travel and enjoys many different sports, particularly basketball, tennis and sailing.
